Alongside Santander, Bilbao is one of the largest cities in the north of Spain and it is a true cultural hub of food, history, architecture and even language. It is situated in the Basque country of Spain which is known for having its own language, foods and way of life. Whether you are visiting a local museum, snacking on pintxos for lunch or wandering through the old town, a road trip visit to Bilbao is an absolute must.
Picos de Europa - 90 min drive from Santander Ferry Port
One of the most spectacular (and hidden gem) destinations in the whole of Spain can be found just a 90-minute drive from Santander’s ferry port. Picos de Europa is a 671 square-kilometre national park that includes huge jagged mountains, immense lakes and some of the most incredible walking routes anywhere in the world. They have been nicknamed the ‘Spanish Dolomites’ and feature some of the most breath-taking scenery that you will ever be likely to come across. Make sure your phone/camera is fully charged!
Santillana del Mar - 30 min drive from Santander Ferry Port
Santillana del Mar is one of the most well-preserved medieval towns in the whole of Spain and is a very popular day-trip from Santander. The town itself is often referred to as a ‘living museum’ with many of its houses built between the 14th and 18th centuries. There are plenty of cafes to enjoy your cortado out on the street and a very relaxing, slower-pace to life here. Perfect to relax and unwind!
