DFDS Adds New Jersey Service

The Government of Jersey has signed a 20-year contract with ferry operator DFDS to manage and enhance ferry services between the island, the UK, and France. This new agreement, set to take effect from 28 March 2025, promises faster, more frequent, and reliable ferry connections for both passengers and freight.
Key Routes & Service Improvements
Under the new contract, DFDS will operate
ferries between Jersey and:
- Poole & Portsmouth (UK)
- Saint Malo (France)
DFDS has pledged to provide more frequent sailings during peak periods and to introduce faster ferries for journeys to the UK. Additionally, the company has committed to investing in three new ferries by 2032, including two high-speed summer ferries aimed at improving travel times and comfort.
A Boost for Islanders & Businesses
Kirsten Morel, Jersey’s Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, welcomed the agreement, saying:
“I’m delighted we have signed a contract with DFDS which will enable us to provide the best possible ferry services for islanders for the next 20 years.”
The Jersey ferry operation is expected to generate revenue of around DKK 450 million ($62.4 million) in 2025, reflecting the importance of this service to both residents and businesses.
A Strong Partnership with DFDS
DFDS will initially operate a fleet consisting of:
- One Ro-Pax vessel (for both passengers and freight)
- Two high-speed ships
- One dedicated freight vessel
DFDS CEO Torben Carlsen emphasised the company’s commitment to Jersey, stating: “The life-line ferry service is a vital link for the island, and we are fully committed to delivering reliability and an enhanced travel and transport experience for islanders, businesses, and visitors.”
This long-term deal marks a significant step forward in ensuring Jersey’s connectivity, supporting tourism, trade, and local businesses for the foreseeable future.
