The port of Ryde is a port that connects the Isle of Wight with England. The two connections are to Portsmouth Harbour and Southsea. Depending on the time of year, there are up to 39 daily sailings to choose from each day. The sailing times are just 22 minutes and 10 minutes respectively.
Much of the history of the Port of Ryde centres around its historically significant pier. The 19th century timber-planked pier was completed in 1814 as one of the most iconic landmarks of the Isle of Wight. It is a listed structure with its own train station, providing easy connections to the nearby town of Ryde as well as the rest of the island. The Ryde ferry terminal that was built later and that stands today is quite small but makes for very easy access to and from England.
Ryde to Portsmouth Harbour is operated by Wightlink whereas Ryde to Southsea is operated by Hovertravel. There is just one small terminal here.
Directions For Getting There
If you are travelling by car from Newport, follow the A3054 to Ryde. The ferry port is well sign-posted from here.
If you are travelling by train, Ryde is one of the most well-connected towns on the island so there are often many local rail services to and from here.
If you are travelling to the port by bus, Southern Vectis run regular services around the island that will be able to get you close to the terminal.
