Fishguard is a relatively small port that is located in the coastal town of Fishguard, Pembrokeshire in south-west Wales. The port is operated by Stena Line and operates one route: from Fishguard to Rosslare, Ireland. There are two daily ferry crossings all-year-round on the Stena Europe ferry.
The history of Fishguard and its port dates back more than 1000 years to the era of the Norse. The town became a settlement in around 1000AD and most likely an important trading post in Wales, surrounded by secure castle walls. Throughout history it has likely been an important trade and passenger route from Wales to Ireland and back, and remains so to this day.
Directions For Getting There
If you are travelling to Fishguard by car, the best method is to follow directions to Fishguard Town Centre, with the ferry port being located 1 mile north west of there. However, most SatNavs will be able to take you directly to the port.
If you are travelling by train, you can travel directly to Fishguard Harbour station. From various parts of the UK, it is very accessible and will lead you right to the ferry terminal itself. However, you may need to change trains a couple of times depending on where you are travelling from.
If you are travelling by plane at least part of the way, the closest airport to Fishguard is Cardiff, around 80 miles away. From here, a train or car is your best option.
