Douglas is the main port in the Isle of Man and connects the island with England, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. There are up to 27 sailings weekly depending on the time of year. The destinations on offer from the ferry routes include Liverpool, Belfast, Dublin and Heysham.
The port dates back to 1660 where the first infrastructure within the port was recorded. In the 1800s, the port began to open up to the booming steam industry which saw many passengers both staying in Douglas as a destination and also just passing through as a stop-off. The steam-boat revolution inevitably led to the ferries that we see today.
All routes in and out of Douglas are operated by Steam Packet. The crossing times vary from just under 3 hours to just under 4 hours. There is just one terminal for this ferry port.
