About The Port

St Malo is one of the most popular ferry ports in France and has a number of crossings to different locations in England, Guernsey and Jersey. There are up to 14 sailings per week to Portsmouth, Guernsey, Jersey (St Helier) and Poole.  

The history of the port dates back all of the way to the establishment of St Malo at the beginning of the 1st Century BC. The first settlement was built by Celtic tribesmen in order to control the entrance to the Rance River for military and economic purposes. During WW2, the port and town were bombarded by the Allies as they were stationed by German troops. Since the war, St Malo has turned into a bustling and thriving ferry route.

Depending on where you are sailing to from St Malo, the crossings can vary from 90 minutes to 8 hours and 50 minutes. The route to Portsmouth is offered by Brittany Ferries and the rest by Condor Ferries.

Directions For Getting There

If you are travelling by car, from Paris it is approximately a 4 hour drive via Motorway A11, then RN137. From Caen, it is approximately 1 hour 50 minutes via Motorway A84. To get to the port, follow signs at each exit for St Malo to the Terminal Ferry du Naye which are well signposted. There is an open car park opposite the terminal where charges apply.

If you are getting to the port via train (from Paris), take the train from Paris Montparnasse to St Malo train station (The SNCF Station is in the Square Jean Coquelin). It takes approximately 20 minutes to walk from the ferry terminal to the train station.

If you are travelling by bus, there is a local bus service that is located around 3 minutes walk from the terminal.
