Holyhead ferry port is a small port on the island of Anglesey in Wales. The ferry port provides the popular ferry route of Holyhead to Dublin, Ireland. There is a choice of up to 9 ferry crossings per day that are operated by both Irish Ferries & Stena Line. The Irish Ferries travel time is 2 hours and 15 minutes, whereas the Stena Line crossing takes an extra hour. There is just one terminal at Holyhead Port for passengers.
The history of the port dates all the way back to 1848 and as well as carrying passengers and cargo to and from Ireland, the port also played a major role in defending the country against U-Boats in the Second World War.
Directions For Getting There
If you are travelling by car, the Holyhead Ferry Terminal is extremely accessible. Arriving from Liverpool and Manchester you can reach the port via the A55 road which takes you directly there. There is a 20 minutes free parking for drop off and a long stay car park if you continue your journey as a foot passenger.
If you are travelling by bus, there aren’t as many options but it is probably wise to take a similar route as if arriving by car. Reaching Liverpool or Manchester via a National Express service or something similar, followed by a local connection to Holyhead.
If you are travelling by rail, Holyhead Railway station is on the main line and can be reached from all over the UK. Trains take about 4 hours from London and 2 hours from Manchester.
